KU Leuven's Public Governance Institute is one of Europe's leading centres for research in public management and administration. The main objective of the Public Governance Institute is to improve public management, public organization and public policy. The institute functions as an interface between the university and the public sector. Its main activities are: fundamental and applied research; training and education for students and civil servants; consultancy. In the research program attention is paid to themes, such as  'innovation and transformation' and the 'performance' of 'government within society' and the interaction between specific aspects of public management like performance management, human resource management, IT management and public policy. Members of the Public Governance Institute participate in national as well as international networks in order to exchange information and experiences (e.g. IIAS, ECPR, EGPA, IRSPM, EUSA, EPAN, EAPAA).
